Our process

At Detroit Woodworking, we make custom craftsmanship seamless. From consultation to installation, we guide you through each step with clear communication and expert precision.

Initial consultation

First, we will meet to discuss the desired end product, and gather inspiration images and drawings. You will work with our team to create a thorough understanding of your needs. This step is crucial, building out an understanding of your project to move forward creating a personalized design to gauge a rough estimate.

Retain our Services

After the initial consultation Detroit Woodworking provides our clients with a detailed estimate and AutoCad renderings of the potential project. We provide you with two complimentary estimates - allowing for adjustments to be made after the first presentation of the estimate and drawings. After these revisions are complete, we ask for 10% of the estimated price as a retainer to move forward with the project. This is not an additional cost as the 10% will be credited towards the final cost of the project.

Collaborative Design

At this point we begin to develop the final plans for your project. We will walk you through the selection process of door styles, finishes, cabinet construction and more to ensure everything is finalized before production. After each change there will be, at most, a one week turnaround to produce revised plans. Our team works to provide detailed plans for production and full AutoCAD renderings of the project in its final form. Our design process can take 2-6 weeks to finalize.

Final contract deposit

Once selections have been made and you are satisfied with the plans, a contractual estimate is presented. Before any steps are taken in the production process, we request that 40% of the contract estimate is paid as a deposit, and the drawings are signed off. After the deposit and the site is prepared to be field checked, we will visit the location of your project and take comprehensive and accurate measurements of the space.

Scheduling and Production

After securing 50% of the final contract estimate (10% after the first revision, 40% at the contract stage) we are able to provide our clients with an estimated delivery date. Our production process usually takes 8 - 12 weeks. We’re aware of the tight schedules of our clients, so we offer storage of completed projects in a climate-controlled facility for up to one month after the proposed delivery date. 

Project Delivery and Installation

On the day of delivery, the remaining balance of the final invoice is due. We ensure that delivery runs smoothly by sending at least two team members to escort our work to its final destination. In a 30-mile radius of our shop (located in Roseville, MI) we are able to provide installation services if needed. If we are installing your cabinets, we will provide an accurate timeline of installation at the start of the project, and work to cater to any special needs or requests. If another crew will be handling the install, our Project Manager will communicate proper installation tactics to that team.

Project Review

At Detroit Woodworking we encourage our partnership with our clients to continue after project completion. After the installation is completed, our operations manager, Nick Connell, will connect with you to make sure you are 100% satisfied with the outcome. Our clients are welcome to reach out to us at any point to communicate any questions or comments. We provide a limited lifetime warranty on all of our custom cabinets. We take pride in knowing that our clients are satisfied with our work.
